Stun Guns For Self Defense

Stun Guns

Stun guns are the second most popular self defense product in the USA. They are only out sold by pepper spray for use as a self defense product.

Stun guns are a hand held device with two or more prongs on one end that deliver an electrical shock when contact is made with a person or animal. The electrical charge is applied to an attacker for 3 to 5 seconds and will incapacitate an them for a short period of time.  These effects of a stun gun are short term and usually have no long term effects.

Over the past few years stun guns have gotten more compact and more powerful. Several years ago the average stun guns had no more than 100,000 volts. Cell phone stun guns and flashlight stun guns are inconspicuous as they look like an everyday thing someone would be carrying. Today most stun guns range from 1.2 million volts to 4.5 million volts for the most powerful one available.

The voltage output of a stun gun is important as it increases the effectiveness of the shock and decreases the length of time needed to stun and disable an attacker.
Remember to check with your local law enforcement on any stun gun restrictions for the area you plan on carrying it in!

Buying Pepper Spray

April 26th, 2011

If you walk at night in a dangerous area, you might want to buy pepper spray for self defense. As the name suggests, it is made from hot peppers. Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) is the most important chemical used in pepper spray. OC based pepper sprays have several of concentrate levels: 1%, 5% , 10%, and even as high as 18%. Keychain pepper spray is ideal to use to protect ones self because it is small and conveniently attached to your keys.

Pepper spray is available in many different spray patterns: steam, gel, fog type, and foam.

If you reside in a windy place, you would want to use a stream type pepper spray. Stream sprays are very effective choice. They have a 15-20 feet spray range. The advantage of stream pepper spray is that you can be farther away from an attacker. Moreover, there is no danger of chemical blowing back at you.

Pepper gel works differently than any other type of pepper spray. It has a range of up to 25 feet. The active ingredient is in the gel foam, which prevents unwanted contamination. Gel pepper spray is outstanding for indoor use or in small enclosed area. There are no splatter or inhalation problems when used inside for self defense.

Fog type sprays will stop an attacker in their tracks! Their range is 4-8 feet. Fog sprays disperse finer droplets and are quite effective. However, these sprays are not ideal in a windy situation. Wind could blow it back on you or in the wrong direction.

Foam type sprays are comparable to spray gel. These sprays are also ideal for confined areas and indoors. Foam type sprays have a range of 6 to 8 ft. Foam sprays will coat an attackers face very thickly.

Pepper spray has become a popular item for defending yourself against an attacker or a vicious animal. The chemical present in the sprays is an inflammatory. When it comes in contact with eyes, throat, lungs, and nose, it hits the mucous membranes present in them, and leads to instant incapacitation. This causes the eyes to become teary and slam shut! Stronger concentration may cause immediate and temporary blindness or restriction of breathing for sometime.

The best way to use a pepper spray is to spray an attacker’s face. Your attacker will become incapacitated for sufficient time so that you can run away or get help.

Remember, if you live in New York, you must buy a pepper spray from a licensed pharmacist or a firearm dealer. If you live in Michigan, you can use specific sprays that have been approved for sale in that state. In Massachusetts, you must possess a Firearms Identification Card to use such sprays, while in Wisconsin; you may not use UV dye spray types. Animal type pepper sprays are legal in all 50 states. These types of spray can be purchased for shipment to all areas of the U.S.A. including areas that prohibit other types of pepper spray.

It’s time to arm your self with a self defense weapon. Do not allow yourself to be the victim of a crime.

Pepper Spray Self Defense Products

April 22nd, 2010

Pepper spray comes in various strengths, sizes and containers.  Pepper spray is an excellent self defense product that can protect  someone  from being a victim of a crime or animal attack.

The first thing you should consider when purchasing a pepper spray is its strength.  Look for a good name brand like Wildfire or Mace.  Be sure your pepper spray  has a 10 percent  OC (oleoresin capsicum “OC” the active ingredients in pepper spray) content.  Many store brand sprays are only 2 percent OC spray.  Always check with your local law enforcement office on restrictions of carrying pepper spray and any strength restrictions.

Pepper spray canisters come in many different forms.  The most common for ladies is lipstick pepper spray.  Law enforcement  favor the larger 18 gram police pepper spray by Mace.

Remember pepper spray is  easy to carry and conceal, its inexpensive, and it might save your life!
